If the name Jonathan Carroll sounds unfamiliar to you, then you must have arrived here by some sort of fortunate accident. Jonathan Carroll, though little known in his native United States, is one of today's most interesting and gifted writers, and has earned a cult status in several countries - certainly here in Poland. If, on the other hand, you know (of) Jonathan Carroll, maybe have read a few of his novels, maybe have seen him in person - then this place is for you, but be warned that it contains spoilers galore. (This is the last warning you will receive...)
In 1993 I wrote Not in Kansas Anymore: A Guide to the Novels of Jonathan Carroll - my M.A. thesis covering the first seven novels Jonathan Carroll had written up to that date. It was a joy to write, especially because at that time Carroll was virtually unknown in Poland too. His first novel, The Land of Laughs, had been published in 1987 in a science-fiction magazine "Fantastyka" (in three monthly installments) and it was all I had to begin with: a newspaper-quality print, newspaper-quality paper, a stack of fast-fading, unstapled sheets that contained the most wondrous, hilarious and inventive horror/fantasy story this side of Big Bang. Full text of the thesis is available in HTML.
